“Purple yam, as the name suggests is purple, the origin of which is South Asia. The yam is grown in South America, Africa and in some parts
of Australia. In Sri Lanka, this yam is grown in wet as well as dry zones. As per the Department of Agriculture, purple yam is largely grown as
a commercial crop in the Moneragala, Jaffna and Anuradhapura districts.” [1]

A Quick Observation: We live in a tropical island with so many varieties of food. Raja Ala is a perfect addition to your healthy food list. It is a vine that can be grown in your garden easily. It can be turned into many mouth watering recipes from porridge to tea buns. This purple yam becomes big at maturity. However, the Department of Agriculture will advise you on how to make smaller yam.
