Common Sailor

“Neptis hylas, the common sailor,is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia. It has a characteristic stiff gliding flight achieved by short and shallow wingbeats just above the horizontal.” [1]

“This butterfly has the most number of larval food plants in Sri Lanka which are not even restricted to certain families of plants.” [2]

A Quick Observation: Another visitor to our garden from the world of butterflies. Flight with ‘no flapping’ intervals- wing flapping is brief. Often seen resting on plants and sometimes on the ground.
